Gov. Blagojevich Arrested on Corruption Charges

Here is the criminal complaint filed by federal law authorities in Chicago today against Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich and his Chief of Staff John Harris. The link is from The New York Times.

The governor is accused of using his position to take a bribe in naming an appointment to replace president-elect Barack Obama in the U.S. Senate. He is also accused of trying to strong-arm the Chicago Tribune into firing some members of its editorial board to assist in a deal to sell Wrigley Feild.

The complaint said that in exchange for the Senate appointment, Blagojevich's wife could be placed on corporate boards where she might earn as much as $150,000 a year, and he tried to gain promises of money for his campaign fund.

Blagojevich was arrested in handcuffs this morning outside his home.
