Casey Anthony Indicted on Murder Charge in Case of Missing Caylee

Casey Anthony, the mother of missing 3-year-old Caylee, was arrested Tuesday and charged in an indictment with killing her daughter. She was taken into custody in Orlando after apparently trying to elude officers in a car switch under a highway overpass.

A grand jury indicted Casey Anthony on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, aggravated manslaughter and four counts of lying to investigators about the disappearance of Caylee, state attorney Lawson Lamar said. The mother is being held without bond. The indictment can be seen here.

If convicted of first-degree murder she could face the death penalty or life in prison, but prosecutors said no decision has been made on whether the death penalty will be sought.

After the indictment, undercover officers followed Casey Anthony as she traveled in her mother’s SUV. The officers saw the SUV stop under a highway overpass, at which point Anthony got into another vehicle and drove off. Officers made the traffic stop after she entered the second vehicle, the spokesman said. She was then arrested and escorted to jail.

There is a preliminary hearing scheduled Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. Eastern.

Casey Anthony Out on Bail Once Again

Casey Anthony, the 22-year-old mother of missing Orlando child Caylee Anthony, was released from jail on Tuesday, shortly after appearing before a judge on new charges unrelated to the little girl's disappearance.

Anthony, 22, posted the $1,250 bond and left for home, where she'll remain on house arrest with an electronic ankle monitor. The new charges accuse her of stealing checks and petty theft.

She showed no emotion during the two-minute hearing, and told the judge that she understood the latest charges against her. Her attorney, Jose Baez, criticized police after the hearing, saying he isn't afraid of police and won't back down.

Casey Anthony Out of Jail Again

The mother of missing Orlando toddler Caylee Anthony was released from jail Friday after posting $500,000 bail for the second time. Casey Anthony is once again required to wear an ankle monitoring bracelet after being set free.

Lab Results Show Caylee's Dead

In what is a terribly sad story, an investigator in Orlando said today that the lab results on hair samples confirmed that Caylee Marie Anthony's dead body was in her mother's trunk. How the body ended up in the trunk and how she died is still unknown.

"We clearly have evidence that indicates there was a dead body in the trunk of Casey's car and that that body was Caylee's," Sgt. John Allen told ABC News affiliate WFTV.
That station had previously reported that FBI DNA tests confirmed that Caylee's body had been in the trunk and hair and fluid analysis indicated the body was decomposing. The mother, Casey Anthony, remains in jail on an unrelated charge.
