For Kennedy, the Dream Lives On

Sen. Ted Kennedy, who is suffering from terminal brain cancer, gave an emotional opening night speech at the Demcratic Convention in Denver tonight.

Shailagh Murray of The Washington Post reports:
"I have come here tonight to stand with you to change America. To restore its future, to rise to its best ideals, and to elect Barack Obama president of the United States," Kennedy said in an impromptu speech that electrified the Democratic National Convention on the first night of its gathering. "This November the torch will be passed again to a new generation of Americans."

Adam Nagourney of The New York Times writes:
Every sentence was greeted by loud applause. And while Mr. Kennedy spoke slowly, he was firm and energetic, gesturing with a hand and sounding very much like the man who enraptured the party’s convention 28 years ago.

The Kennedys are remembered here by Jeff Greenfield on CBS tonight.
